DESCRIPTION:Speaker: Dr. Patrick Griffith\, the Executive Director of the Montgomery Botanical Center \nTopic: Searching for the World’s Largest Coconut on the Palmyra Atoll \nThe Palmyra Atoll is right at the center of nowhere in the Pacific Ocean\, 3\,300 miles southwest of North America and 3\,300 miles northeast of New Zealand.  Until last November\, no one had collected any of the remarkable native coconuts in over a century.  But then Dr. Patrick Griffith and his team from Montgomery Botanical Center traveled to the atoll to observe and collect seeds of the Palmyra palm…. \nCome and hear what they found!

SUMMARY:Matt Snow: Growing Mangos in South Florida (Talk & Tasting) at Fairchild's Mango Festival
DESCRIPTION:The 32rd Annual Mango Festival is a celebration of the “King of Fruit”. The event features tastings of hundreds of rare mango varieties\, culinary demonstrations\, tree sales\, and educational lectures. \nDr. Matthew (Matt) Snow was born in Miami and has been into plants since a very young age. He started with orchids and built his first shade house at 13. Since 1992 he has been a commercial farmer of avocados\, longan\, jak fruit\, mangos\, and mixed tropical fruit in the Redlands. He also manages an organic blueberry farm in North Carolina. He has given numerous presentations and has written several articles about tropical fruits and their culture\, grafting\, orchids and cold protection. He is the current Vice President of the Rare Fruit Council International Miami (and also happens to be a Clinical Cardiologist).
